ForeverGreen in cooperation with Pierce County Parks is developing trail guidelines that will provide for a multiple-use trail that includes walkers, horseback riding and cyclist.

Some communities measure their livbility by considering if their citizens can walk safely to schools and the library.  A trail provides the infrastructure for a system of connecting sidewalks and bike lanes to the county-wide trail system.  All of these are needed to create a non-motorized option for the 30% of the population who don't drive automobiles.

ForeverGreen Council originally was formed to access the future park needs in the county and plan for 2020 when the county population would exceed a million people.  After public hearings around the county, people told us that trails and open space was their highest priority.

ForeverGreen's community assessment and planning phases were made possible by the generosity of several foundations which include:

Cheney Foundation
Greater Tacoma Community Foundation
Sequioia Foundation

Never Ending Trail.

Foothills Trail begins near Buckley Wa. and ends near Puyallup and Sumner.

Construction has taken over 15 years with an average of a mile of trail added each year.

Trail plans call for connecting the trail with Sumner and Puyallup. Long-term plans call for connections to Tacoma to the west and with the Carbon River Entrance to Mount Rainier National Park to the east.

A long range vision for the County call for connecting the trail through Gig Harbor  with Tacoma, and several inter-city trails in Tacoma. Over time ForeverGreen Council is committed to creating a trail system that includes all the communities in Pierc County.

Orting, WA. with views of Mount Rainier.  Long-range trail plans call for connecting two entrances of the National Park with trails which will pass through every community in the county.

The Foothills Trail follows the Puyallup River through one of the more dramatic canyons in the county.  This spot is a favorite for fishermen when the Salmon fill the stream.

ForeverGreen Trail coordination efforts was made possible by a generous grant from the National Park Service.  A staff planner, Bryan  Bowden, from the Rivers and Trails  Program has provided  assistance and consultation throughout the project.

The historical logging rail line was abandoned in 1990.  Volunteers from the Foothills Trail Coalition and other  groups contributed to the building of retro-fitting of the bridges which were preserved for trail use.
